Biography & Career
Gould Wu is one of the most breathtaking emerging rock drummers from Hong Kong.
Gould started playing drums since the age of 16, when he form his first band Rebel, playing primarily J-rock covers. In his early days his had already won awards in band battles, which fueled his competitive spirit and his determination on the quest to become a remarkable drummer in his own right.
Honing his skills through performing with a wide variety of musical groups and in different venues, while taking lessons from master drum instructor Ho Yat Kwan, Gould won best drummer in Hong Kong_м_s Yamaha Asian Beat band competition in 2006, and passed the London Trinity Guildhall drum kit Grade 8 examination with honors in 2007. Gould became a full time musician and instructor after securing these titles.
Inspired by the likes of Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) and the Rev (Avenged Sevenfold), in 2008, Gould joined the Hong Kong metal band Crazimalz, and continued to develop his double-peddle kick drum technique. Crazimalz released its first album of all-original materials in the same year (in Hong Kong and Singapore) to critical acclaim.
In 2009, Gould started posting his drum cover videos of metal/rock songs on his Youtube channel. With his excellent technical skills and unique Asian-boy persona, he quickly won over thousands of fans. His most popular video, a cover of Avenged Sevenfold_м_s Beast And The Harlot (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ae1tBkA2ZB8) has over a million views and hit rate is still going up on a daily basis.
After Crazimalz, Gould now drums for KillerSoap, a British-rock influenced originals band with the title of Global Battle of the Bands Asia Champion under its belt. Gould_м_s thunderous and inventive drumming perfectly complements the crafty songwriting, intricate dual-rhythm guitar work, and flawless vocal delivery of the group.
More recently, Gould has also taken up a part in an experimental percussion group, Junkit, which performs percussion-only pieces on everyday items such as buckets, pipes, and rubbish bins.
With influences ranging from metal, rock, to latin and jazz, Gould is a versatile and mature musician with a charismatic and unstoppable on-stage presence. He is available for a variety of gigs and private lessons.
